The
beautiful Pichola Lake was enlarged by Maharana Udai Singh after he founded he
city. This scenic lake, surrounded by Palaces, Temples, ghats and hills, is the
largest in Udaipur and it derives it names from Picholi Village, Flooded Long
ago so as to enlarge the lake rising from the lake are the two islands Palaces
of Jag Niwas and jag Mandir. Lake is now four km in length and three km wide. Gangaur ghat lies on the bank of the lake Pichola and is famous for the Bird's
eye view of the the City Palace, Lake Palace, Jag Mandir, and a complete look of
old city havelies and buildings. Lake Pichola is the most Known area of interest
among the foreign tourists. The tourist are most inclined towards staying in the
hotels and guests houses situated on the bank of Lake Pichola because the view
from the Terraces of these places are simply marvelous.

This
delightful lake boarded by hills and woodland was constructed by Maharana
Jai Singh to the north of lake Pichola. It is an artificial lake dug up in
the 1678, reconstructed by Maharana Fateh Singh A canal links the two, via
swaroop sagar and Rang Sagar Lakes. The beautiful Nehru islands as well
as an islet bearing a solar observatory rises from the lake. |
